9017973-01 Pressure Transmitter Replacement PT201-16 & PT201-71 for Alfa Laval PureBallast BWTS.jpg

A direct-fit replacement for the Alfa Laval 9017973-01 pressure transmitter used at measurement points PT201-16 and PT201-71 on PureBallast 3 ballast water treatment systems. Same sensor platform as the OEM unit (JUMO MIDAS S07 class), same 4–20 mA two-wire output, same process thread and electrical interface — installed in minutes, verified against your portable reference in one service visit.

What the pressure transmitter does in your PureBallast system

The PureBallast control system cannot protect the filter, regulate a backflush or keep the reactor at design flow without accurate pressure data. Three transmitters supply it, and they are effectively the only pressure inputs the control system has.

What the Pressure Transmitter does in the Pureballast BWTS.png

9017973-01 is the Alfa Laval spare part number covering both the PT201-16 and PT201-71 positions. That is why the two are so often ordered interchangeably — and why carrying one part number covers two measurement points on the skid.

Four functions the control system depends on

Why 0.2 % linearity matters here. The backflush trigger is only 0.50 bar. A transmitter that has drifted by even 0.1 bar starts backflushing far too early — wasting treated water and pump energy — or far too late, letting the filter load up and starving the UV reactor of flow.

Product features — built for ballast water service

Seal-free, fully welded measuring system

The measuring system is a fully welded piezoresistive silicon sensor behind a stainless steel separating diaphragm, with no internal elastomer seal in the pressure path. This is the single most important design feature for ballast water duty: there is no seal that can age, creep, or let process medium migrate into the electronics. It is also the reason the unit holds its calibration from one annual service to the next.

Marine construction throughout

316 L wetted diaphragm

Stainless steel 316 L separating diaphragm for chloride resistance against seawater, brackish water and CIP fluid residues.

304 stainless body

Process connection and case in stainless steel 304 — proven in the salt-laden atmosphere of a ballast pump room.

–40 to +125 °C

Full accuracy across the entire medium temperature range, so readings stay valid in cold-water ballasting and warm-water deballasting alike.

IP67 enclosure

Sealed against wash-down, condensation and deck spray around the filter skid.

≤ 5 ms response

Step response T90 of 5 ms or better — fast enough for the control system to PID-regulate V201-8 inside the short backflush window.

Overload & vibration resistant

Silicon sensor with no mechanical fatigue: handles pump pulsation, water hammer and millions of pressure cycles.

Direct OEM-specification replacement

The PureBallast 3.2 system manual component list identifies the OEM sensor platform for these measurement points as the JUMO MIDAS S07 OEM pressure transmitter. The FiverUVC replacement is manufactured to match the 9017973-01 / MIDAS S07 specification across every parameter that affects the control system:

  • Same measuring principle — piezoresistive silicon sensor with stainless steel separating diaphragm, fully welded and seal-free

  • 4–20 mA two-wire output — recognised immediately by the PureBallast analogue input card; no re-scaling, no reconfiguration

  • Matching process thread — G 1/4 standard; G 1/8, G 3/8, G 1/2, 1/4-18 NPT, 7/16-20 UNF available to match your Connection List

  • Matching electrical interface — attached cable, M12 × 1 round plug, or DIN EN 175301-803 plug connector

  • Same mechanical envelope — fits the existing measure point, handle and service valve arrangement

  • Same response and accuracy class — 5 ms T90, 0.2–0.3 % linearity, ≤ 0.2 % per year long-term stability

Quality assurance and testing

Every transmitter is individually tested before shipment. This is what separates a specification-matched replacement from a generic industrial sensor that happens to screw into the same port:

  • Stage 1 — Sensor calibration: multi-point pressure calibration against a traceable reference across the full measuring span.

  • Stage 2 — Output verification: 4–20 mA signal checked at zero, mid-span and full span, including load resistance verification.

  • Stage 3 — Pressure and leak test: over-pressure hold plus IP67 integrity verification.

  • Stage 4 — Environmental check: insulation resistance and dielectric strength test, and thermal drift check across the operating range.

Why FiverUVC

Specification-verified, not "universal"

The FiverUVC 9017973-01 is specified against the OEM part number — sensor technology, output signal, measuring range, wetted materials, protection rating, process thread and electrical interface — rather than against a mechanical fitment chart.

15+ years of marine UV and instrumentation supply

Fiver Environment Group Co., Ltd. (est. 2011) is an ISO 9001:2015 certified manufacturer with over 20,000 m² of production facilities and 70+ invention patents in UV technology. We supply UV lamps, quartz sleeves, lamp power supplies, UV sensors, temperature transmitters, temperature switches and pressure transmitters for PureBallast and other ballast water treatment systems — so one enquiry can cover your whole spare parts list.

Fleet standardisation and fast delivery

Standardising on FiverUVC transmitters across a fleet gives consistent inventory and volume pricing. In-stock orders ship within 24 hours of payment confirmation; express courier delivery is 2–4 days to major European and Asian ports, 4–7 days to the Americas and Middle East. Frequently asked questions

What does PT201-16 do in an Alfa Laval PureBallast system?

PT201-16 measures system pressure before the filter. The control system uses its 4–20 mA signal to issue pressure warnings, shut the process down if pressure exceeds parameter p100, and PID-regulate control valve V201-8 to reach the correct pressure during filter backflushing.

What is the difference between PT201-16, PT201-71 and PT201-72?

PT201-16 measures system pressure before the filter. PT201-71 and PT201-72 are the filter inlet and outlet transmitters; the control system subtracts PT201-72 from PT201-71 to calculate differential pressure across the element. At the p305 setting (default 0.50 bar) an automatic backflush starts. Alfa Laval part 9017973-01 covers both PT201-16 and PT201-71.

Is this a direct drop-in replacement for Alfa Laval 9017973-01?

Yes — same sensor technology, 4–20 mA two-wire output, same process thread and connector options, same mechanical envelope. No adapters, no wiring changes, no control system reconfiguration.

Which measuring range do I need?

The standard PureBallast configuration is 0–6 bar relative, but ranges vary by system size and configuration. Confirm against your Connection List or the existing nameplate — or send us the vessel details and we will confirm it for you.

How often must PureBallast pressure transmitters be calibrated?

Every year, under both IMO and USCG requirements. PT201-71, PT201-72, PT201-16 and pressure gauge PI201-18 are calibrated in the same session against a portable reference, with an allowed variance of A/C = 0.95 to 1.05.

Which alarms indicate a faulty PT201-16?

A01 — Process pressure too high (PT201-16), 30 s delay. A03 — Process pressure signal missing (PT201-16), 30 s delay. Note that an indicated pressure of −1.0 bar is not an error. Full diagnostic and replacement steps are in our technical guide.

Do you ship to all ports?

Yes. In-stock orders ship within 24 hours of payment confirmation. Express courier is 2–4 days to major European and Asian ports, 4–7 days to the Americas and Middle East. We can deliver directly to your vessel's port agent.
